Need Of Sustainability In Textile Industry

Textile industry is well known for consuming large amount of energy, water and causing depletion of natural resources, hence creating an imbalance in the world’s ecosystem. The total greenhouse gas emissions from textile production are around 1.2 billion tons annually.  If this situation continues to persist it won’t be long before all the species starts to vanish from the Earth, global warming reaches its peak, survival of humans becomes impossible and the Earth itself will die along with its ecosystem.

The high impact on environment has forced the textile industry to take the path of sustainability. At GM International we are aware of the greenhouse emission, global warming and increasing carbon footprint, which is caused due to textile pollution. Hence, we have come forward to produce sustainable textiles for our current generation and future generation’s well being.

Hemp

Hemp, one of the earliest known textile fibers, has seen intense interest and a magnificent revival since it was formally legalized, in the United States of America with the signing of the Farm Bill Act in 2018. The 2018 Farm Bill formally made commercial production of hemp legal. The renewed focus on hemp has generated much curiosity and interest towards sustainable textile manufacturing.

Hemp textiles are one of the cheapest textiles obtained organically thus championing towards a sustainable future. The fabric produced from hemp fibers are good for people with sensitive skin and don’t cause allergic reactions unlike chemicals in synthetic textiles. At GM International we add designs and patterns to hemp textiles to make them one of a kind!

Recycling

Textile recycling is a system of reusing or remaking the used clothing, rugs, fibrous materials etc into new usable textiles. Approximately, 1.5 millions of textiles that we can reuse or recycle are redundantly put thrown away every year causing more damage to the soil, air, water and the combined ecosystem of Earth.

When textile dumps are burnt it produces a large amount of pollution. Rather than dumping them, recycling them reduces the greenhouse gas emissions. It reduces air and water pollution and helps conserve energy and natural resources. It helps to create economic development and increase employment in the country. At GM International we see the potential for recycling and reuse of textile waste.

You can make a difference, we all can, if we just decide to use maximum raw materials as waste or recycled. For the textile industry, the best we cando is the maximum and optimum use of recycled materials. It could be Recycled Polyester, Recycled Nylon or Recycled Cotton. We are trying our best to add value to each step in the recycling process and we intend to keep adding either the raw materials or the product in itself.

Circular Economy

Circular economy is a recent economic model that has emerged as a response to the need and requirements of society and for saving our planet Earth. Unlike the conventional linear economy and supply chain model the circular economy model aims to reduce eliminate waste in the textiles industry, promoting reuse of resources. Introducing circular economy practices in the textile business helps to minimize the use of resource inputs and the creation of waste, pollution and carbon footprints, hence creating a better sustainable future for our coming generations.

Circular economy gives access to high quality, durable and affordable textiles and clothing. It allows the recycling of the clothes that cannot be used anymore into new clothing, hence capturing the value of material during and after use. It ensures that fewer energy and less resources are consumed. It makes sure that plastic microfibers are not released into the environment also other pollutants like green house gases are also designed out.

At GM International we practices circular economy and supply chain model in a systematic approach to economic development that benefits not only our business but our society and the environment.
